The History of Holistic Treatment

Ayurveda is the ancient medical tradition of India. It is believed to have been created due to a text written by Sushruta in the 6th century B.C. Ayurveda focuses on the five great universal elements, the seven elements of primary constituent and the three “doshas”, or biological energies.

During the scientific revolution of the 19th century, scientists started to create “cures” for modern illnesses. Although these were helpful, the vaccines and medicine would often harm the individual further instead of helping them. Because of this, alternatives to these medications were sought after and holistic treatment was introduced.

A new interest in spiritual healing was introduced to the western side of the world in the mid-1900s. The first Conference on Holistic Health was held in California in 1975. Shortly after, The American Holistic Health Association was formed and started implementing holistic practices in most medical settings.
